Viruses

As a service to all our customers, we will try to keep you up to date on the current viruses and worm programs that are going around out there, and which ones you should be worried about. Please keep in mind that most virus programs on the internet are sent from computer to computer through email attachments. In most cases, if you don't open the attachment, you cannot infect your computer with the virus. As a rule of thumb, if you receive an email that has an attachment with it from sombody you don't know, delete it without opening the attachment.

There are always a lot of hoax warnings going around through email, also. If someone sends you a virus warning, please go to this page and check to see if it is real or not before you forward it to anyone else.

Spyware

Spyware is software that analyzes and tracks your browsing habits and reports them to a specified database on the Internet. The software can consume system resources, install programs on your computer without your knowledge, and even take over the browsing capabilities of your computer.

While spyware can't be avoided, it can be successfully removed from your system. Two of the best programs out there are Ad-Aware and SpyBot. Both have an updateable database for spyware definitions and contain no adware or spyware software. Copies of these programs can easily be obtained from http://www.snapfiles.com/get/adaware.html and http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
or http://www.download.com.
